I have two friends in my life that I have known since childhood...I have known them since forever.
One I talk with every day..and one I reconnect with every once in awhile but intend to do that more :) because it is just joyful.
They knew me when..and I knew them too! :) We have shared histories that are part of my life story. I am sure you have folks like that in your life too. I think sometimes we don't appreciate those connections enough.
In the rush of life we can forget what it was like in grade school...getting in trouble. Your first love. Eating school lunch. Then on to middle school where in our town all the parochial school kids joined the public school kids and became one group. Well we never really became one group ...you knew who the St. Stephen's kids :) (We were the only ones going to heaven...I often wondered if those other kids ever had a clue about that!!!) LOL. But it was our own version of a melting pot...in our own small town.
I think it's important to have that touchstone to the past. To remember people or things that can make us remember and smile. I am not saying recreate your childhood to make everything bad that may have happened disappear. I am saying if you can...remember one or two things that brought you light and laughter. And revisit them every once in awhile. It's good for the soul. And it's a darn good memory exercise!!!
I was just talking with one of those friends I mentioned before. I asked her if she remembered when we met. She had a better recollection then I did. I apparently talked about my first love Robert who had gone one to a different middle school.
Sighhhhhhhh...I had not thought about him for years. You can bet I will today!
