I have been thinking about that this morning after watching the US and Canada hockey game yesterday. It was a great game to watch. I am not a hockey fan usually but I was watching like millions of others for the run for the gold medal.
What I found most curious was the interview that was done with US goalie Ryan Miller after the game. By any account he did a great job. Yes, the winning shot got by him at the end. But reading his teammates comments this morning... they all credited him with getting them as far as they got.
What I found interesting was the interview and the interviewer after the game who kept saying how big the game was. Miller kept saying they played it like any other game. Not satisfied with that, the interviewer again kept trying to get Miller to say how big the game and it's ramifications were. Again Miller talked about it as just a game.
As I listened I thought...there you go...you get to put whatever importance you want on anything you do. You get to choose. Not the folks watching you. Whether that is your partner, your parents or the world at large. You get to choose.
Not everything is a make or break "game'. Not everything has life altering consequences. Life is a journey and there will be highs and lows no matter how focused you are.
But if you consider everything a "game" you have to win...you will end up pretty exhausted and spent at the end of it. And I think there is a better way to travel...
