Hillary Clinton went back to work today at the State Department after recovering from a concussion. Her staff gave her a football helmet...saying that life in Washington is often a contact sport. By all accounts she appreciated the gift! :)
Life can feel that way outside of Washington too. Life can jostle you, turn you upside down and throw you to the mat. You get to lay there then...catching your breath and wondering if it's worth getting back up again. You know more contact will be coming. Very few people get a contact free ride in life.
Here is what I do know. You cannot really protect yourself from the contact. You may be able to wear a helmet...but the truth is if you are always getting dressed for battle...for contact...that's what you end up looking for.
I choose to dress for peace and joy. To be honest I have been knocked done so many times in the last five years I have lost count. But I keep getting up. I may take awhile to get up off the mat but I do.
I dust off and regroup and get back into the game. Maybe wearing some better armour would be smarter but I prefer to travel light ...
and peace and joy don't weigh an ounce.
SO true :-) sometimes I wonder!!!

I loved the analogy - very fitting as sometimes it really does feel like we have had the wind knocked out of us.
The key is, though - to just get back up!

Thank you for this great post! I love the title of your blog as well. So very, very true! It's not about how many times you fall down, but how many times you get up! :) And yes - dressed for peace and joy! We create what we are so to speak!
