Over the next several days I will be exploring how we can bring more joy into our lives using our senses. The five of them...hearing, sight, smell, taste and touch.
I am well aware that not everyone has access to all of them. Some folks lose some of their five senses and some folks were never born with them. Whatever you have been gifted with...and they are a gift...I think we can use them more consciously to bring more joy into our lives.
I lost three senses a few years ago overnight to a virus. It was ironic because the day before it happened I was at lunch with some people and we were have one of those.."what if" conversations. The "what if" was what sense would you be willing to give up? I said I could not decide. The very next morning I woke up and could not hear, smell or taste!
My doctor believed it was some type of virus. All I know is that it took months for everything to come back and what a lesson in being grateful for what one has. Not that I don't forget that lesson every once in awhile so the next few days of writing is to help me remember what gifts we have right in our own hands.
Today is about hearing. Easy questions for you...what do you hear during the day? What conversations do you hear, what music do you hear, do you spend and time listening to yourself?
All that and more has an impact on your "joy" state. If you only hear people complaining, if you only hear music that talks about violence or disrespects people..that has an impact on you.
If you are surrounded by people that only talk about negative stuff..again an impact on you.
So what do you do to increase your "joy" state?? You step away from those conversations that are complaining and negative. You find music that is upliftingg to you. You experience quiet so you can hear yourself think. You are most likely more brilliant than you know. But you have to listen to what you already know to discover that! :)
Notice...not one of those things you can do to increase your "joy" state will cost you any money. But I believe you pay a tremendous price if you are not paying attention to what you hear.
What else can you do to "hear" more joy?
Tomorrow...increasing what we see.
