really look at them. It's said you draw everyone into your life to learn from them. I don't know if it's true but it's an interesting concept.
So look at your life...who is there? And what can you learn from being involved with them?
I had breakfast with someone on Friday. She has been in my life for several years. Sometimes she can drive me nuts with nonstop phone calls. When she does call and I answer... I need to have at least 30 minutes available. I have tried every technique known to man or woman to shorten the call...nothing works but hanging up and that I will not do.
She doesn't have a wide circle of friends. She lives alone and has some disabilities that make her life challenging and make some people walk away from her vs getting closer.
At breakfast on Friday it took her 60 minutes to eat an omelet and it could have taken longer but I said I needed to get to work in an hour which I did. I realized she was eating so slowly to make our breakfast last as long as possible. It was then I said we would get together in another couple of months...and she said..that will be July right? :)
Here is what I learned from my time with her.
+ It doesn't take a lot of time to connect with people...but it takes some time...and that's a gift we can give each other.
+ Being present means listening and being quiet sometimes because everyone has stories to tell and they need someone to hear them. And sometimes that person to listen is me.
+ I learned that I need to practice patience more...which means just taking a deep breathe and letting people be where they need to be...at their own speed. (okay I set a limit on that... :) but I thought 60 minutes to eat an omelet was pretty good.
Tomorrow...one of my biggest surprises about someone in my life and the lesson I learned. And realizing it this past weekend has been okay...really it has.
