I have been thinking...like a lot of Americans...about the horrible events in Tucson. And while saying prayers for all involved is important. To acknowledge their losses for just doing what people have a right to do on a beautiful morning...there is still more we should be doing.
And it's personal and it's about us.
We need to look at how we use our own words...and how we honor them. Forget Sarah Plain. I have my own opinion about the role she plays in public debate. But I am more interested in how we play a role with our words each and every day. Because if you think what you say doesn't count...you my friend are wrong.
What you say does count. And because words have stunning power...you need to be mindful of how you use your words and I need to be mindful of how I use mine.
You can build someone up or you can destroy them. You can bring comfort or you can bring harm.
Just for today do an experiment. When you see someone..notice something about them and say something nice. It doesn't have to be over the top...just say something nice. Then quietly observe your impact. You can move mountains my friend..mountains.
My favorite example of this was years ago when I was in the grocery store late at night. The woman checking me out looked exhausted. Simply exhausted. I noticed she was wearing the most unique pin. I told her it was beautiful and she became all teary eyed. She said her grandmother had given her the pin and no one had noticed it all day. Unbelievable. Her whole being changed as she talked about the pin.
See what impact you can have today..on a stranger...on someone in your family just by your supportive words.
Be committed to using your power for good. We will all be better off for it.
